Urgencias Aburrá

Urgent care · Laureles

Where we would go at 9pm with a bad cut or a fever — not where we would go with chest pain.

Entrance to Urgencias Aburrá at night

Our take

Evening urgent care is the gap most visitors fall into: too unwell to wait for a morning appointment, not unwell enough for an emergency department. Aburrá covers that gap and is honest about waiting times at the door. The caveat is language. After eight in the evening you may be describing your symptoms to someone with limited English, so go prepared to do that carefully.

Why it made the cut

  • Genuinely open late and staffed, confirmed on two separate evening visits.
  • Triage happens at the door and waiting times are posted honestly.
  • Card payment accepted without an insurance relationship.

The trade-off

English is inconsistent after 8pm. If your Spanish is limited, bring someone or be ready to use a translation app for the intake conversation.

Clínica Dental Nogal

Manila · Dentist · $$

The one to call when you want the plan explained in English before anyone touches your teeth.

  • English spoken
  • Written quotes
  • Routine + restorative
  • Card accepted
Why it made the cut
  • Both practising dentists hold conversational-to-fluent English and explain treatment plans before starting work.
  • Written quotes are given in advance, itemised, and held for 30 days.
  • Sterilisation protocol and equipment were visible and current when we visited.
  • They decline work outside their scope and refer out rather than improvising.

The trade-off: Appointments are booked one to two weeks ahead and they do not run an emergency line after 6pm. If you have acute pain tonight, this is not the number to call.

Front desk at Odontología Serrano

Odontología Serrano

Laureles · Dentist · $

Straightforward routine dentistry at local prices, with enough English to get through an appointment.

  • Posted prices
  • WhatsApp booking
  • Routine care only
Why it made the cut
  • Prices are posted and match what is charged at the desk.
  • One dentist speaks solid English; the front desk does not, so book by WhatsApp in writing.
  • Consistent reports from long-term residents over several years.

The trade-off: No cosmetic work and no sedation. Communication depends on which dentist you get, so confirm when you book.

Consultation room at Dental Lumen
Recommended

Dental Lumen

Envigado · Dentist · $$$

The practice we would use for planned cosmetic work — provided you arrive with realistic expectations and time.

  • English consultation
  • Staged written plans
  • Cosmetic + restorative
Why it made the cut
  • Treatment plans are staged in writing with dates, costs and what happens if a stage fails.
  • They turn down compressed timelines rather than rushing multi-visit work into a short trip.
  • Full English consultation, including the consent paperwork.

The trade-off: It is the most expensive practice on this list, it is in Envigado, and serious work will require you to be in the city for two to three weeks.
